2022 Szejtli prize to Angela Scala

The CycloLab’ Szejtli award committee, has decided to award the 2022 Szejtli prize, to Dr Angela Scala, Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Messina for her outstanding contribution the synthesis, characterisation and application of amphiphilic cyclodextrins.

Dr. Scala made a substantial contribution to the description of the complexation properties of amphiphilic cyclodextrins with anticancer and phototherapeutic drugs, through NMR (one- and two-dimensional techniques).

The awardee has been working on this field since 2011 under the guidance of Prof. Mazzaglia and is currently an Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Messina. 

She has published 74 scientific technical papers with 1241 citations having an Hirsch-index: 20; and now keeps working on the synthesis, characterization and supramolecular organization of polymer- and cyclodextrin-based biomaterials for controlled –release drug delivery and nanomedicine.
