Wiley has recently published a book on nanosponges edited by Francesco Trotta and Andrea Mele. The book gives an excellent overview of the field, covering in detail a wide range of different types of constituent materials, such as polymers, metals and metal oxides. It discusses their production and synthetic routes, as well as applications in several areas, including catalysis, drug delivery and environmental science.
Among polymeric, metal-organic, metal and metal oxide nanosponges a chapter is dedicated to the cyclodextrin nanosponges. Various CD-based nanosponges (urethane/carbamate, carbonate, ester-type, ether type nanosponges) are introduced, their preparation, functionalization are described and their applications in textile industry, agriculture, water purification and catalysis are demonstrated.
