A comparison of cyclodextrans, cyclodextrins, and their complexes

Posted by

This study compares and contrasts several structural and thermal characteristics of cyclodextrins (CDs) and cycloisomaltooligosaccharides (CIs) using various analysis techniques. CIs (CI-7−CI-13) were synthesized in our laboratory using the enzyme cycloisomaltooligosaccharide glucanotransferase (CITase).

This study demonstrates that, despite both compounds exhibiting similar properties, such as solubilization rate, CI exhibits greater resistance to digestion than CD, even as the degree of polymerization increases.

Structural representations of cyclodextrins (CDs) and cycloisomaltooligosaccharides (CIs) showing their molecular structures.

It was concluded that the advantages of CIs over CDs include their higher DP and larger number of glycosidic linkages, which confer them with better resistance to digestion. However, both compounds have similar properties and are suitable for various applications.
