Enhanced Solubility and Rapid Delivery of Vitamin D3 via Sulfobutyl Ether β-Cyclodextrin Inclusion Complex in Mouth-Dissolving Films

This study successfully demonstrates the preparation of a vitamin D3:SBE-BCD inclusion complex using an eco-friendly, microwave-assisted method that minimizes solvent and energy use. The complex exhibited strong binding affinity and an optimal 2:1 stoichiometric ratio, significantly enhancing vitamin D3’s solubility. Incorporation into mouth-dissolving films (MDFs) further improved its suitability for patient administration by enabling rapid disintegration and dissolution, maintaining acceptable mechanical properties, and ensuring excellent content uniformity. Sensory evaluation revealed high acceptability of the films, though slight improvements in aesthetic qualities could further boost patient compliance. Overall, this research offers a promising approach for developing innovative, patient-friendly vitamin D3 formulations with enhanced solubility and bioavailability, addressing the global issue of vitamin D deficiency.
