A Critical Evaluation of Genuine Cyclodextrin- containing Products in the Post-soviet Market

Posted by

This study examines suboptimal formulation practices involving cyclodextrins (CDs) in medicinal products across the post-Soviet region, with a focus on Russia, where CDs are frequently used in quantities far below stoichiometric levels. By analyzing products with publicly available package inserts, the research highlights the region’s distinctive transparency in disclosing composition details. This level of openness allows greater awareness among healthcare professionals, physicians and patients about excipient exposure and function. The study emphasizes the need to justify CD usage in formulations and urges thorough evaluation by the Ministry of Health during marketing authorization. Such transparency offers valuable insights for optimizing cyclodextrin use in pharmaceutical development.
