This study developed a new vaginal hydrogel to treat genitourinary syndrome of menopause, aiming to improve drug retention and patient compliance compared to traditional treatments. The hydrogel uses hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) and hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HPBCD) to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of estetrol, a hormone used in treatment. Tests showed the hydrogel is non-toxic and effectively retains the drug in vaginal tissues, minimizing systemic exposure. It also provides controlled drug release, potentially improving therapeutic outcomes. While promising, further clinical trials are needed to confirm its effectiveness and safety in real-world use.
