Preparing for Easter people paint eggs. Weather cyclodextrin can be useful as coating? The post demonstrates a detailed investigation into the effects of coatings on egg quality and the use of modified eggshell nanoparticles for dye removal from wastewater.
Eggs were coated by rapeseed oil, 0.5% β-CD and rapeseed oil/0.5% β-CD . Egg quality attributes such as weight loss (WL), air cell depth and diameter, Haugh unit (HU), albumen pH, yolk index and colour, eggshell strength and morphology were monitored [1]. Similar initial quality attributes of control, rapeseed oil, 0.5% β-CD and rapeseed oil/0.5% β-cyclodextrin-coated eggs were obtained at day 0. Control (uncoated) and β-CD-coated eggs had the worst WL, air cell diameter, air cell depth, albumen pH and a* values after storage for 28 days at 25 °C, while the rapeseed oil/0.5% β-CD-coated eggs maintained slightly improved egg quality attributes during storage.
Another research prepared egg shell (ESh) nanoparticles modified by glycine/β-cyclodextrin (ESh/Gly/βCD) and ethylenediamine/β-cyclodextrin (ESh/NH2/βCD) and used to remove crystal violet (CV), and malachite green (MG) dyes from synthetic wastewater [2]. The results indicated that ESh/Gly/βCD and ESh/NH2/βCD have high adsorption efficiency for organic dyes. The maximum adsorption capacity of CV, and MG dyes over ESh/Gly/βCD was calculated 94.58 and 103.09 mg/g, and onto ESh/NH2/βCD was found to 101.19 and 101.55 mg/g, respectively. Methanol was chosen as the adsorbents washing solvent for the recovery and reuse of nanoadsorbents and in the sixth consecutive adsorption–desorption process, the removal percentage of CV and MG dyes by ESh/Gly/βCD was 80 and 84%, respectively, and by ESh/NH2/βCD was 84% and 90%, respectively. Finally, the ESh/Gly/βCD and ESh/NH2/βCD nanoparticles can be considered as new nanosupports for the removal of various dyes from industrial wastewater.
Happy Easter!!!
