Cyclodextrins against skin aging

Since the last review in the Cyclodextrin News summarizing the anti aging effects of retinol (Vitamin A) and its derivatives, tocopherol (Vitamin E) and ubiquinone (Vitamin Q10) solubilized/stabilized by CDs the following trends were highlighted in the literature:

  • Improving skin penetration of hyaluronic acid (anti-wrinkle compound) by using quaternized cyclodextrin grafted chitosan [1]
  • Promoting skin permeation of isoflavones such as formononetin by HPBCD [2]
  • Solubilizing/stabilizing epidermal growth factor (EGF) and vitamin E acetate in liposome formulation [3]
  • Solubilizing/stabilizing cosmeceutical ingredients derived from plants [4] such as lotus seed extract [5], camellia oleifera [6], grape seed extract [7]
  • Improving the properties of solid lipid nanoparticles used as skin delivery systems for natural antioxidants such as resveratrol by using tetradecyl BCD [8]
